Within the WTO system subsidies are considered another kind of “unfair trade practices” in international trade along with anti-dumping practices. Countervailing measures are imposed on the exporters should these subsidies cause or threaten to cause njury on the domestic industry to remove the injury caused by subsidized imports.

Until 2008 Turkish Anti Dumping and Subsidies Authority (Ministry of Economy) did not initiate any subsidies investigation, but in 2008 Ministry of Economy initiated the first subsidies investigation on “pet films” originating in India and imposed countervailing duty in March of 2009.
